Chief Executive Officer, LSHM North China
Lawrence was appointed CEO of Caterpillar dealer LSHM North China in 2017 following LSHM’s acquisition of WesTrac China in November, 2017, where he had been CEO. WesTrac China was renamed LSHM North China.
During over 30 years in the mining and construction equipment industry, Lawrence has helped several global players establish and significantly grow their business in China.
He began his career in 1989 as sales engineer with a Hong Kong trading company covering concrete pumps, asphalt plants and earthmoving equipment. In 1996, he became the Chief Representative and later China General Manager of Svedala Industri in Beijing.
Lawrence played a critical role in the company’s effort to establish their business in China, including the setup of a plant in Tianjin and building up a complete sales network. In 2001, Svedala merged with Metso Minerals and Lawrence worked as President for Dynapac division in China, where he grew the business to become Dynapac’s second largest country market.
Lawrence joined Sandvik Mining and Construction 2004 as their China President. He led the process to move the company’s China HQ from Beijing to Shanghai, upgraded the representative office into a legal entity and built up a manufacturing plant in Shanghai.
In 2009 he became head for China business for Volvo Construction Equipment. He helped the company to more than double its revenue in China with a strengthened dealer network and enhanced product and commercial offering. Before he joined the Caterpillar family through WesTrac he was President for Volvo CE’s sales region China and Managing Director for Volvo Construction Equipment (China) Investment Co., Ltd.
He joined WesTrac China as CEO elect in July 2014, where he worked as COO until late November when he assumed the CEO role. Before the acquisition, WesTrac China had an annual sales exceeding US$400 million and 25 branches with a workforce of 900.
On Nov.1, 2017, LSHM completed its acquisition of WesTrac China and changed the company name to LSHM North China. Lawrence was appointed CEO and has been leading the company to sustain its business success through various initiatives.
He has a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from China University of Science and Technology (USTC) and a Master of Science degree from the Graduate School, China Academy of Science.
