CREATING A RENTAL COMMUNITY
Managing Director, Access Hire (Australia)
Tim started in the hire industry at the age of 21, working for general rental company Wreckair Hire as a Hire Controller. He worked his way up through to sales person, branch manager, sales manager, then State Manager after 21 years of service. He managed the Victorian operation through the 1990s recession where the company lost 45% of turnover in 6 months. Three years of hard work brought the business back to a 15% return on investment (ROI)
After two years working with a sister company of Wreckair - waste collection company Cleanaway – he joined JLG Industries. He spent nine years at JLG, ultimately reaching the position of Vice President and General Manager Australia and Asia.
He left JLG to return to a rental company, joining New Zealand business Ready Hire as its Managing Director for Australia. Ready Hire had acquired the Queensland business of Donpra Hire from bankruptcy and Tim turned the business around and recovered the shareholder’s investment.
It was in 2004 that Tim bought Access Hire, the access rental specialist that he still owns and manages. Access Hire is a supplier of aerial platforms to the construction industry in the Melbourne/Victorian market, and he has grown the business from 160 units in 2004 to over 500 machines today.
From 2008 to 2013 Tim was National President of the Elevating Work Platform Association of Australia (EWPA). He is currently its National Vice President. He was awarded life membership of the Hire & Rental Industry Association (HRIA) in 2018.
In his personal life, he is a committed cyclist and triathlon athlete. He competed in the Pioneer Mountain Bike Race in New Zealand in 2018 – a six-day, 424km long race. Tim has two adult children and four grandchildren.
